Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Aidarbek Saparov held talks with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Kazakhstan, Dace Rutka. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in the agro-industrial sector and strengthening trade and economic ties.In 2025, trade turnover of agricultural products between the two countries reached 51.4 million US dollars. The main items of Kazakhstan’s exports included rapeseed, oilcake, wheat, cotton fiber, as well as grain and oilseed crops.
Aidarbek Saparov noted that Latvia is one of Kazakhstan’s long-standing partners. According to him, Kazakhstan is interested in expanding mutual trade and diversifying export supplies to the Latvian market. The country has significant potential in the production of honey, vegetable oils, meat, dairy products, and aquaculture products.
The Minister emphasized that the agricultural sector demonstrates steady growth. In 2025, gross agricultural output increased by 5.9% to about 20 billion US dollars. For the second consecutive year, grain harvests have remained at around 27 million tons. Grain exports are also growing annually, and Kazakhstan is ready to further increase supplies.
Logistics issues were discussed separately. Latvia is considered a strategic partner in the storage and transshipment of grain and oilseeds with access to the EU and Northern European markets. The Baltic route is becoming a key element in diversifying Kazakhstan’s export routes.
In 2025, 802 thousand tons of grain were exported through Baltic ports, including 441.2 thousand tons via Latvian ports — the Freeport of Riga and the Port of Liepaja. In particular, Prodcorporation shipped more than 58 thousand tons of wheat to Morocco through the Port of Liepaja.
For her part, Dace Rutka outlined priority areas of cooperation of interest to Latvia, including aquaculture development, agricultural processing, veterinary medicine, exchange of experience, creation of joint ventures, as well as cooperation in agricultural science and breeding.
