The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan has submitted for public discussion a draft order introducing temporary restrictions on wheat imports. The document prohibits the import of this product into the country by road, water, and rail.The draft was prepared based on a decision of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations, adopted on June 5 of this year.
The draft proposes a six-month ban on the import of wheat (EAEU TN VED code 1001) from Eurasian Economic Union member states and third countries. The restrictions will apply to deliveries by road, water, and rail.
However, a number of exceptions are provided. Wheat imports by rail will be permitted for poultry farms, flour mills, licensed elevators, and JSC NC Food Contract Corporation.
At the same time, grain delivered to poultry farms and flour mills will not be able to be sold either on the domestic market or abroad.
The restrictions will not affect wheat transported through Kazakhstan by rail, nor will they affect cargo transiting between Eurasian Economic Union member states through the republic.
The temporary ban is expected to support domestic agricultural producers and help maintain stable grain distribution channels.
The draft order has been posted for public comment. Comments and suggestions on the document are accepted until June 21.
